How To Share Your Wi-Fi Password On Your Android and iPhone

Understanding how to share a Wi-Fi password on an iPhone or Android smartphone may be really helpful. It’s far easier to share your password instantaneously using your smartphone than it is to memorize 20 random characters if you have pals over.

While iPhones can share Wi-Fi passwords with other iOS contacts and Android phones can use QR codes to share them with iPhones and other Android devices, obtaining a password from an iPhone to an Android phone takes a bit more work.

It’s worth mentioning that if you routinely have visitors or big groups around, you should seriously consider setting up a guest or temporary Wi-Fi network, which many routers allow you to accomplish. This method is far safer than giving your password to anybody who enters your home.

Yet, both Google and Apple provide built-in mechanisms to easily and securely share your Wi-Fi password with individuals you trust without telling them the actual password. Isn’t that great?

How To Share Your Wi-Fi Password On Android.

The simplest approach to share your password with an Android phone is to generate a QR code that users may scan to join the network instantly.

  1. Go to Settings > (Connections) > Network and Internet > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap on the Settings Icon next to the connected network.
  3. Tap the Share button and authenticate yourself. A screen should come up with a QR code, the name of the Wi-Fi network, and the password. Or tap on the QR code symbol beside the Forget button.

How To Share Your Wi-Fi Password On iOS.

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Then tap on your network.
  2. On your device, you should get a pop-up asking if you want to share your password. Tapping the Share Password button should start the process of getting them online.

If you don’t see the prompt, it’s probably because Apple requires the person requesting the password to have your Apple ID email saved in their Contacts app, and vice versa. If you’re experiencing trouble, go to Settings, tap your name at the top, and double-check that your listed email addresses have been added to each other’s contact cards.

It’s usually simply quicker to show them the password and have them enter it themselves. But if you don’t know it off-head and you’re running iOS 16 or later, you can access the password by:

  • Going to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  • Tap on the blue I button next to your Connected Network.
  • Then tap on the Password field.
  • You’ll be able to view your password once you’ve Authenticated yourself.
